Ladyswell 1 v 1 Moorefield
Ciaran Ennis 39’
-
First day nerves were no where to be seen as Ladyswell welcomed Moorefield Fc to a windy Damastown for the beginning of the Leinster Football league Saturday division 3. Ladyswell would be without key players Gavin Cordean, Shane Smith, Keith Clarke and with Colin Ennis out till Christmas the new Ladyswell manager Mick Loftus was left with a few changes to make.
-
The game tipped off with the wind behind the home sides back and it was the home side who started brightly. The home side should have been one nil to the good when a superb ball by Gerrard Gannon found Ciaran Ennis how powered his shot into the arms of the out rushing keeper.
-
The game shortly became a midfield battle and tackles were being dished out by both sides with the referee reluctant to show a card to either side. The game was very bitty and was broken a lot by a number of free kicks and offsides.
-
Moorefield stunned the home side after a free kick on the edge of the Ladyswell box was well saved by the home sides goal keeper but he could only push it against the post and the on coming Moorefield striker dispatched the rebound to make it 1 v 0.
-
Ladyswell looked disjointed after the goal but the home side were denied by a defensive header against the post by Dermot Ennis and the Moorefield striker pinged the post. The home side retaliated brilliantly and began getting the ball down on the ground and it should have been one all when Stephen Coates dragged his shot just wide.
-
Ladyswell continued to push on and got the deserved goal they were searching for after a brilliant ball into Ciaran Ennis who opened his account for the new season with a cheeky goal. The Ladyswell goal would see both teams go into the break with an even keel.
-
The beginning of the second half would see Ladyswell getting the ball onto the ground and playing the ball around the Moorefield centre midfield. Ladyswell’s back four were getting all the plaudits as they were catching the attackers off side again and again to the frustration of the away side.
-
Up the other end of the pitch Ladyswell were playing the ball around and the home side should of taken all three points with Ciaran Ennis going close again and substitute Daniel McLoughlin also dragging a shot wide, but the best chance of the day fell to Ladyswell’s right Back John Cunningham who had two great opportunities denied by the goalkeeper one after the other. The game finished one all despite Ladyswell feeling the maybe should of picked up all three points, but the league title wont be won on the opening day and nobody likes to lose on the first day out. -
