Ladyswell C 0 V 1 Ladyswell B
-
At the beginning of the season after a wonderful pre-season were both teams performed so well there was an optimism that they would bring that form into the the season proper and hopefully they would be challenging each other at the top of the league. Although things have not gone exactly to plan this weekends derby game would see the two sides face off against each other.
-
The talk was that the two sides were involved in a basement battle but it is too early in the season for that talk and three points for either side would be welcome. The Ladyswell C side as the home team would change from the normal yellow and blue to a red and blue away jersey.
-
Ladyswell C started brightly and had the early opportunity to take the lead but were denied by the returning Robert Simpson in the Ladyswell B goal. The C team were pushing on with renewed vigour and should of had another goal when Robert Kelly was again denied by Simpson. The B team took their time to settle although there first opportunity was a shot dragged wide of the goal this gave them the drive to push on.
-
The B team now had an enthusiasm and were creating opportunities with Moloney in the C teams goal having to make a number of saves from distance. The C team were not totally pinned back with them having opportunities of their own which Simpson was equal too.
-
It was Ladyswell B who took the lead before the end of the first half after Aidan Burke received a through ball from the vigilant Keenan and from 25 yards drove the ball into the bottom corner and although the diving Moloney got a hand on it the ball nestled in the bottom left corner.
-
Ladyswell B started the second half the brighter but Brian Reid at centre half for the C team was having a man of the match performance and was frustrating the B sides Alan King and Jay Morgan who replaced Ian Kenna at half time. The C team took on the challenge of being one down and tried to create some opportunities with the best of those falling to Damien Bernes who should of levelled. The B team also had a wonderful opportunity to seal the points as once again Aidan Burke broke through and struck the bottom of the post and a scrambling Moloney just got back to pick up the rebound.
-
Ladyswell B would come away with all three points as both sides had put up a wonderful performance and even the referee enjoyed the game and felt it could of gone either way. B side manager Mick Loftus was delighted with his teams performance and hopes that his team will now kick on. While Kevin Caulfields side felt slightly unlucky not to get something from the game but the side can build on a good performance.
