A Day To Remember

A Fairy Tale Final-
-
Ladyswell United V Ladyswell United
-
On July 13th 2010 the Jubilee cup kicked off with the host team picking up a great victory, this was to be the story of the tournament with both Ladyswell teams finishing top of the groups and avoiding each other in the semi final.
-
On Thursday 22nd of July 2010 the semi-final of the Jubilee Cup kick off with Ladyswell United in a position to be in the final. Come the final whistle in both semi-finals a dream had come through that both teams would face each other in a final that would be the culmination of Twenty Five years of hard work.

The build up to the game was quite exciting as both teams had agreed a toss of a coin would decide who would wear the well known yellow of Ladyswell United, the toss would be decided between the two Captains.
-
Dermot Ennis and Christopher McEntaggart with the Jubilee Cup
-
The coin toss would see Ladyswell Sunday wearing the Yellow and Blue whilst Ladyswell Saturday would wear the red and Blue away kit.

Some games are described as dull and uneventful but this game had everything from goals to bookings to great saves to great goals and a fairy tale come true for the club itself. Ladyswell Saturday started the brighter and looked to settle quicker at the beginning. The Sunday side had found it hard to get started but had defended well early on but after a long range shot from Keith Clarke, Sunday goalkeeper David Moran pushed a decent save away for a corner kick.
-
The resultant corner seen centre half Stephen Keenan come up for a corner which he firmly planted into the net. The Sunday side still looked to be rushing things and this was down to the persistence of the Saturday side. The first half was very open and both sides had chance with the both goalkeepers making wonderful saves. On thirty four minutes the Saturday side found a second goal after Ciaran Ennis struck from 25 yards into the bottom left corner.
-
Ladyswell Sunday thought they had got back into the game when David Farrell scored but the vocal Saturday side support soon informed them of the linesman's flag to rule out the goal. both sides fashioned chances with Mark O'Donnell, Gary Nolan going close for the Sunday side and Daniel McLoughlin and Keith Clarke testing the respective keepers.
-
The second half seen both sides settle totally and begin to enjoy the occasion again the game began to flow. With both sides yet to lose a game in the tournament the second half was lively and exciting. The majority of which was played through the centre of the park. It was midway through the second half when David Farrell hit a shot from the edge of the box and the ball nestled in the top corner of the net, which out did Ciaran Ennis' earlier 25 yard strike.
-
The game was becoming more open and both sides had good chances with both keepers being tested. With 15 minutes to go Ladyswell Sunday equalised when a scrambled ball fell to Mark Moloney who had an easy tap in.
-
Both sides were now anxious and the nerves could be seen as both sides knew another goal would win or lose them the trophy. Ricky Egan and Gavin Cordean almost made it three two the Saturday side and David Farrell and Stephen Hand also came close. The nervousness of the game was showing as both teams could sense the end nearing.
-
It was a wonderful occasion and one team had to win and it was substitute Martin White who scored the winner for the Sunday side after a pass from the back found him in space he still had huge amount of work to do as he lifted it over the goalkeeper to seal the win and ensure the Sunday side won all their pre-season games.
-
It was a wonderful final and both teams are the pride of the club and put on a brilliant show.

Host Team off to a Flyer

-
Ladyswell 4 v 1 Finglas
Ladyswell Saturday got off to a great start in the Jubilee Cup despite being without Captain Colm Ennis who is injured as well as Kevin Cox and Stephen Coates who were missing. Ladyswell started brightly and took the lead through a header from the returning Stephen Keenan.

-
Ladyswell were dealt a big blow shortly after the goal when star striker Shane Smith limped off with an injury. Smith was devastated as this was the first time he had played against his previous team mates. In Smith's departure the goal scoring was handed over his team mates who duly obliged.
-
Keith Clarke got a brace whilst Smith's replacement Paul O'Riely also getting a goal. Ladyswell would also be tested at the back but stand in Captain Dermot Ennis and goalkeeper Ricky Egan were equal to the task.

Finglas Athletic in their New kit sponsered by Guinness

-
Midway through the second half Finglas created another chance but once again Egan was up to the challenge Ladyswell seemed hppy with the result and had slightly stood off but were soon awake when Finglas broke free, Egan cleared his lines but a second ball was not cleared and the ball was put in the net past Egan who was scrambling back.
-
Finglas created a further number of chances late on but Ladyswell held out for a good victory.
-
Laurel Lodge Pick up a Three Points in a tight Game
-
Laurel Lodge 2 v 1 Woods Fc

-
Laurel Lodge and Woods faced each other in the only game in group B Laurel Lodge had taken the lead early and had extended the lead to two. Woods Fc began pushing and were putting Laurel Lodge under pressure. With the game running into the last 15 minutes Laurel Lodge pushed by Woods began to get nervy and Woods got a well worked goal in the last 10 minutes and made the last 10 minutes exciting but Woods just could not break through a tight Laurel Lodge defence.

Cabra Celtic 3 v 1 Smithfield
